A partnership spanning more than four decades

When Ian Chambers placed an order for another Roger Dyson recovery vehicle, it was a decision backed by more than 40 years of experience.

Established in 1955, Chambers Garage in Tirril, Penrith, remains a proud family-owned and family-run business providing vehicle recovery, repairs, servicing, MOT testing and fuel services across Cumbria. Recovery has always been part of the company's story, with Ian following in the footsteps of his father and continuing the family tradition today.

The latest addition to the fleet is a MAN TGL 10.220 fitted with a Roger Dyson Hydraloader HR3500 SLA, supplied as part of an ongoing fleet replacement programme. For Chambers, the decision to return to Roger Dyson was simple.

“Roger Dyson just does it better. They build the best recovery equipment on the market, understand exactly what we want and consistently deliver vehicles that meet our requirements down to the smallest detail. The attention to detail and quality of finish are second to none.” Ian Chambers, Chambers Garage

Since purchasing its first Roger Dyson vehicle in 1985, Chambers Garage has gone on to own 18 Roger Dyson recovery vehicles, with every current recovery vehicle in the fleet carrying the Roger Dyson name.

Confidence built through experience

Operating in a demanding industry means recovery vehicles must perform every day, whatever the conditions. For Ian Chambers, reliability is essential, but it is only one part of the equation.

“Reliability, payload, safety, ease of use, comfort, fuel efficiency and support are all important. A successful recovery vehicle needs to deliver across every area.” Ian Chambers

That philosophy aligns with the Hydraloader HR3500, a proven recovery body designed to provide versatility, productivity and dependable performance throughout its working life.

A fleet built around Roger Dyson

Today, Chambers Garage operates six vehicles, including spec-lifts, tilt and slide, SLAs and an artic tipper, with 100% of its recovery fleet supplied by Roger Dyson. For Ian, that commitment goes far beyond reliability alone.

“Roger Dyson builds the best recovery equipment on the market. The quality is there in every vehicle, from the engineering and functionality through to the finishing details. They understand exactly what we want and the finished vehicle is always delivered exactly as specified.” Ian Chambers

Having operated Roger Dyson recovery vehicles for more than four decades, Chambers Garage values the consistency of both the product and the people behind it. Every build benefits from the same attention to detail, ensuring the finished vehicle is ready to work from day one.

Why a MAN chassis?

The same commitment to quality influences chassis selection. Most of Chambers Garage's larger recovery vehicles are built on MAN chassis, chosen for their build quality, durability, driver comfort and premium finish.

“Most of our larger trucks are MANs. The build quality and finish are excellent, and they match perfectly with the quality of the Roger Dyson body. Both manufacturers take pride in producing a high-quality finished product, and that's important when you're investing in vehicles that need to perform every day.” Ian Chambers

That combination of a MAN chassis and Roger Dyson recovery body has become a trusted formula for Chambers Garage, delivering the reliability, durability and professional finish the company looks for in every vehicle it operates.

Ready for work

The new Hydraloader is now ready to enter service as a key operational vehicle within the fleet. Rather than focusing on headline specifications or the latest technology, Chambers Garage measures success in practical terms.

“It'll just do its job, fully. That's what we've come to expect from Roger Dyson. The quality is always there, the finish is always right and the vehicle is built exactly how we want it.” Ian Chambers

That straightforward expectation reflects the values that have helped the business remain successful for more than 70 years: professionalism, reliability and looking after customers properly.

As vehicle technology becomes increasingly complex, Ian believes modern systems are one of the biggest challenges facing recovery operators today. Having equipment they can depend on has therefore become more important than ever.

After 18 Roger Dyson vehicles since 1985, Chambers Garage's loyalty has been earned through consistent quality, proven reliability and a manufacturer that understands its customers' requirements. For Ian Chambers, the formula is simple: combine industry-leading Roger Dyson recovery equipment with the proven quality of a MAN chassis, and the result is a vehicle built to perform for years to come.
