When presented with the opportunity for Roger to acquire the business, 18 months ago, it was an easy decision to bring the operation in-house.It was decided to extend the hydraulic building in the Dyson main showroom to accommodate the CNC tooling, providing a clean, modern environment to service the company’s requirements whilst still maintaining the experience and skills of the Mountfield business and hosing the vast array of equipment.Shop manager, Michelle Williams, daughter, of Phil Dix, founder of Mountfield CNC, has over 30 years of experience in the CNC industry, so was the obvious choice to manage the workshop.Michelle said, “We had been producing parts for Roger since 1983 with the work taking up more and more of our production time, when the opportunity came to move to Dyson it was an easy decision to make.”The type of parts made in the workshop varies depending on the vehicle production schedule, but include wear pads, articulation pins, top and bottom collars, carriage pivot pins and winch post kits.Roger himself is extremely pleased with how the Mountfield company has integrated into the Dyson operation:Roger said, “The demand for Dyson vehicles has never been higher, which has a knock-on effect for all our suppliers. I’ve been working with RD Mountfield for many years, Michelle and her team work to a high standard like ourselves. This ‘monster’ truck is the first of many X-Way-based recovery vehicles due to join operator fleets.Supplied by Sherwood Truck and Van, the IVECO X-Way 6x2 was sent by Roger Dyson to its heavy-duty recovery bodybuilder partner Tevor in Poland for its build before returning to the UK for final completion. Roger Dyson Ltd is the sole UK distributor for Tevor vehicles, with this vivid yellow example – the first of its kind - set to enter service with Newport-based Walls Truck Services.This behemoth has a Gross Train Weight (GTW) of 80-tonnes and is equipped with dual winches capable of lifting around 15.9 tonnes. The 570hp Cursor 13 engine and tough chassis allows this IVECO X-Way to easily tow coaches or fully laden 44-tonne trucks. A set of deployable hydraulic stabilisers and locking axle differentials allow the X-Way to recover large vehicles from even the most precarious of situations. It also features axle load indicators to help assess weight distribution and maintain safe towing while all heavy-duty tools and recovery equipment is stored in large chassis-side storage lockers.Roger Dyson said “We have built bodies for IVECO vehicles for a number of years based on the Daily and Eurocargo. Exploring what was possible with the highly capable IVECO X-Way was a natural progression, especially when factoring in the truck’s drivability, refinement, and ease of use.”The truck cab is just as impressively equipped as the exterior, featuring a spacious sleeper cab. Ample storage and a memory foam bed with helpful shortcut functions for key operations – such as lighting and door locks – within arm’s reach make this space comfortable and convenient. Creature comforts such as a microwave, fridge, food storage and charging ports for smart devices allow the modern driver to be self-sufficient on long-distance or overnight recovery missions. This IVECO X-Way is currently one of six examples on order with an even more capable X-Way 8x4, complete with 100-tonne GTW, following close behind.
